Savage House is a period comedy, drama from director Peter Glanz starring Claire Foy, Richard E Grant, Jack Farthing, Bel Powley and Pip Torrins in central roles.
Polite society has never been so Savage.
Against the backdrop of 18th century England, a massive pox outbreak, and Jacobite uprising, Sir Chauncey Savage and Lady Savage blindly pursue a better life. It’s not without a tinge of irony that their family name is the Savages, for this is a Savage House indeed, filled with duels, decadence, and bloodshed.
So what did I think about Savage House?
Savage House is an interesting period comedy drama that does offer some entertainment and a few laughs and you would be forgiven for likening it to Withnail and I.
The acting was performed well and there is definitely good things with the writing but it does unfortunately tend to drag on a bit and definitely dwells on the more low brow humour and grotesqueness which can become boring.
Richard E Grant and Claire Foy are excellent as ever and they were honestly the reason for watching this in the first place and without them, the film would definitely be rated a lot lower.
